How to migrate PowerDesigner 6 to PowerDesigner 11

I am with difficulties "to take" models generated in
PowerDesigner 6 for PowerDesigner 11 (evaluation). Already
I tried to make the steps below, but I did not get success.

Step 1 - The basic File/Open I chose diagrama.pdm file
(generated in version 6) and To open. It starts to read the
archive and finishing he almost gives to the error "failed
you read the file". Valley to detach that the procedure was
attemped with other archives (also generated in version 6)
and I did not get success and that the same ones continue
functioning in version 6.

Step 2 - Conceptual Model Date From version 6 was generated
Conceptual Data Model (CDM), still in the archive
diagrama.pdm, with the file name diagrama.cdm then I remade
step 1 and functioned! However submodels if had lost.

The raised questions are:
- Has compatibility between versions 6 and 8?
- How I must proceed to open all diagram (with submodels) in
version 11?

thanks,

Gilberto,
Power Designer changed the structure of the software from version 6 to
version 7 and the migration process is very hard. In my case i can say it
was impossible, since in my organization our conceptual model is very large.
Over last 5 years i tried to migrate several times, but i didn't have
success, even with Sybase's support.
Now, in version 11 there is a new approach that takes it possible. Using
"replicas". And i have to use scripts to convert the old large model to
several small models based on the v6 sub-models.

My v6 model is very large with many sub-models. It is impossible
to work in v11 like a do in v6. Then, i will create several models in v11
based on every v6 sub-models. The entities shared over the models will be
created as a replica.
I created a script to read the large model imported from v6 (with the
sub-models converted to diagrams) and create all the new models based on the
diagrams of the large model. For each model i create the entities, replicas,
relationships and inheritances.

Where are you from? Wich organization? If you are from Brazil i can help you
with my experience.

With an undertaking of this magnitude and gravity, I suggest you take stock
of all PD features and decide how to use them:

post v6 PD offers :
- Model with multiple diagrams
- synonyms
- Packages
- Workspace with multiple Models
- internal and external shortcuts
- and replicas

Template models (to fix model options) and profiles (to fix element display
preferences) may also come into it.

Plus you may want to make inside model reports of say Entity Lists etc to
prevent swearing and so on.

You may want to devise a few alternate/trade-off strategies and proceed in
parallel and see how they work out, make adjustments and abandon some
strategies.

Good Luck - I have not worked with _HUGE_ models myself.

Record you experience/strategy.

Remember, if you have a V6 linked CDM/PDM pair, you should use the File
-> Import -> V6 Synchronized Models. This will let you import both the
CDM and PDM into V11. Hopefully this will give you better results.

As the others have said, there are a LOT of differences between V6 and
V11. 5 full versions with a ton of new functionality and new file
formats. Almost a totally different tool. If you are having pain in
migrating, first try here to see what others are doing. Next, contact
Sybase and see if they can help with tech support or consulting
services. Finally, there are some of us in the user community that can
offer consulting/training/etc services that might be useful.

In first place it would like to be thankful all for the
answers. I go to continue trying to decide my problem.

Marcelo,
I'm from BH to, and I'm friend of Robson Morais who works
with you, had the freedom to catch its telephone with it,
and then I will go to tell to you.

thanks.
