Is it possible to import a Erwin file that has the .er1 extension? We
are trying to convert Erwin models from another office into PD. I see
when doing the import either from PD 10 or 12 that the .er1 file
extension is not listed and also when trying to use the 'all files',
the file simply does not import.
Thanks

We discovered 3 ways of migrating Erwin to PD
Recommended method:In Erwin, use the File/save as menu to
save the Erwin file as an .xml file:
ERwin model must be saved as "Standard XML Format", and you
must uncheck the "Only save minimum amount of information"
check box in the ERwin Save as XML File dialog box.
In PowerDesigner, select File, Import, Erwin file
Specify whether to import Conceptual, Logical, Physical
model; Check “Merge Identical Data Items” to allow reuse
of field names (data items) across multiple tables;
otherwise, a separate data item will be created for each
table in which it appears.
Alternate Method:
In Erwin, export to external format – Sybase Power
Designer 8.0-12.0
In Power Designer open .pdm file created by Erwin; Note:
field order will be Erwin physical column order (order items
input into Erwin model) (not diagram display order).
DDL Method:
Generate DDL from Erwin (Database, Forward Engineer) to
create .sql script file
In Power Designer, File, Reverse Engineer, Database, from
script file

FYI, 12.5 doesn't allow for .er1 files either. D. Griffin's suggestions are probably the
way to go. You could also try to use the conversion utility sold by MetaIntegration
(www.metaintegration.com). I tried their product on a couple of Erwin models and was less
than impressed. As near as I can tell, no matter what method you choose you will have to
redo the graphical portion of your model.
